On May 13, 2010, the President of Palau, Johnson Toribiong, will be given a distinguished alumni award from the University of Washington’s School of Law at the Grand Hyatt downtown.  President Toribiong is a double degree holder from the School of Law ’73, and over the past several weeks a committee has worked with Ms. Beverly Joy Sanders, Director of Alumni Relations, School of Law, to coordinate the Palauan President visiting with the Pacific Islander students and community at the University of Washington.

We are excited to announce that he is available to meet with the UW Pacific Islander community. We cordially invite you to join us on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, 5:00 PM, at the Ethnic Cultural Center’s Theatre, for the:

PACIFIC ISLANDERS AND THE NON-PROFIT MOVEMENT event will highlight the growth of the UW Pacific Islander community, with a welcome by Dr. Sheila Edwards Lange, Vice President for the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity, a special performance by Mr. Chasmon Tarimel (the only Palauan student on the UW Seattle Campus), and presentations by the Pacific Islander student organizations and leaders.

We hope that you can join us for this historic event to celebrate and honor President Toribiong’s visit with the UW Pacific Islander community at the Ethnic Cultural Center.
